Art and technology collide in this fun and imaginative course. Using GIMP software, students will learn how to put their imaginations to use altering and enhancing photos/images, creating their own posters, cereal box covers and so much more. During the semester, students will use pictures, fonts, layers, and other customizable tools to experience first-hand the skills needed to master the art and technology of graphic design.

Graphic Design is an introductory level course that will walk students through basic media design. This is a project-based learning course that will allow you to guide your students through step-by-step programming. They will learn information on copyright laws and the skills to design graphics for web, business and other media. The students that complete this course will have a basic understanding of the mechanics of programming, copyright and other media guidelines, and of course design and editing techniques.

This 14-week, instructor-led, course can be used in whole or in part. It is written as a stand-alone course, but could be used as a supplement to your current technology class or as an after-school course or summer learning opportunity.

Your purchase gains you online access to everything you need for your chosen course. Each course package comes with a teacher guide, step-by-step lesson plans, worksheets, software downloads, and programming resources. Lesson plans and teacher’s guide can be easily downloaded or printed for use depending on the instructor’s preference.

Brainy Bytes curriculum follows the newest generation of ISTE, (International Society for Technology and Education), standards for students (2016). Each of our curricula will expose students to technology and at least one other curriculum topic area (i.e., Science, Language Arts).

Technology Requirements

Graphic Design is taught on Gimp. GIMP is a cross-platform image editor available for GNU/Linux, OS X, Windows and more operating systems. You can find out system requirements here.
