Art and technology collide in this fun and imaginative course. Emphasizing real-world learning, after your students have been introduced to the tools for the job they will step into the life of a graphic designer to experience first-hand the skills needed to master the art and technology of graphic design. Their task will be to create the projects requested by their clients and then present their creations for consideration. Projects will vary by age group and may include ads, posters, promotional items, gifs and more. Put their creativity to work in this artistic and collaborative course.

Graphic Design is an introductory level course that will walk students through basic media design. This is a project-based learning course that will allow you to guide your students through step-by-step programming while introducing them to real-world concepts. They will not only learn the skills to design graphics for media, business and artistic creation, but also learn the rules that govern the industry such as copyright regulations. The students that complete this course will have a basic understanding of the mechanics of programming, copyright and other media guidelines, and of course design and editing techniques.

Created to provide you with the adaptability you need to meet your students’ needs, teachers can easily navigate through instructions for both online and in-class offerings.
This 14-week, instructor-led, course can be used in whole or in part. It is written as a stand-alone course, but could be used as a supplement to your current STEM class or as an after-school course or summer learning opportunity.
Your purchase gains you online access to everything you need for your chosen course. Each course package comes with a teacher guide, step-by-step lesson plans, worksheets, software downloads, and programming resources. Lesson plans and teacher’s guide can be easily downloaded or printed for use depending on the instructor’s preference.

Brainy Bytes curriculum follows the newest generation of ISTE, (International Society for Technology and Education), standards for students. Each of our curricula will expose students to technology and at least one other curriculum topic area (i.e., Science, Language Arts).
The following ISTE standards can be found throughout Brainy Bytes curriculum:

6A – Students choose the appropriate platforms and tools for meeting the desired objectives of their creation or communication.

6D – Students publish or present content that customizes the message and medium for their intended audiences.
7B – Students use collaborative technologies to work with others, including peers, experts or community members, to examine issues and problems from multiple viewpoints.
7C – Students contribute constructively to project teams, assuming various roles and responsibilities to work effectively toward a common goal.
Graphic Design is taught on Gimp. GIMP is a cross-platform image editor available for GNU/Linux, OS X, Windows and more operating systems. You can find out system requirements here.
